2.5 Laptop Enclosure
hard drive enclosure question?
I bought a 2.5" hd enclosure for my Laptop Hard Drive. however the case that it is in is too wide to fit into the enclosure. I took out the little chip and hooked it all up and it works, just would rather be able to get it inside the enclosure. So is it safe to take the metal case off of the hard drive?
I can't quite visualize what you have going on. But I suspect your laptop has some case shrouding the actual 2.5" hard drive. maybe for added shock mounting or whatever. Anyway the actual case of the hard drive should not be removed and you should not have to remove it to get it to fit in the external enclosure for a standard 2.5" drive. The form factor of the 2.5" drive is controlled by a standards commitee for just this type of reason.
