Laptop Quad Core Intel
Why aren't the Intel quad core laptop chips taking off?
I noticed a few months ago the quad core chips came out, but since then it seems like they're being put in fewer and fewer laptops. Dell seems to have scrapped theirs altogether, and HP only offers them in a couple models.
Is there some reason they seem to be avoiding these faster chips?
Wait, you mean applications can't use quad core? I thought it was as simple as more chips = more processing power.

That's the laptop I was looking at, they're down to $1k now. My concern is HP ranks low in quality (1 out of 4 don't last 2 years). But they have GREAT screens as does Dell and I'm looking to do graphics works.
So, do I get the quad core on a risky machine or get a duo that will be obsolete once the quads become commonplace???

Corretion, it was the 1.6mhz quad that's become cheap. Your price is right for the faster speed.
I wouldn't say they're avoiding so much as downsizing. When you think about it, it's far cheaper to produce core2duo CPUs than core2quad. Considering that almost no applications really take advantage of multiple cores, it makes sense that the average user is more inclined to buy computers with dual cores and a higher clock speed. Also consider that yet ANOTHER CPU has hit the market (2...if you want to get technical), the i5 and i7.
