What do you do if you can't take it anymore?
I moved almost a year ago to another state with my child to start a new life. I've done okay- got a job, an apartment. Unfortuneately I found it difficult to raise my child completely on my own so my mom and I agreed she could move here with me. The plan was that we would split the rent and she would watch my child sometimes. Great idea right? NOT. She treats/talks to me like I'm a little kid and undermines my role as a parent. Because my computer isn't working, I have to ask her permission to use her laptop(even though the internet bill is under my name). I have two bd but she prefers to sleep in the living room. I'm an early riser but she has been sleeping until 10:00 Am or later! She gets angry at me and my child for "making noise" in the morning. The worst part is she calls me CRAZY because I am very shy and don't have friends. What would you do in this situation?
Well, I definately wouldn't live with my mother, so more power to you. You need to sit down with her and explain that although you have appreciated her help very much, could there be a way to ease the tension between the two of you with a few simple fixes? Ask her if she would mind going to her BD if the two of you are making to much noise in the AM. Asking her to use her computer is common courtesy, but she should spread some of that your way. You need to let her know that you are the childs mother and will not tolerate her underminding your authority. Explain to her that it would be easier for the child if she would not interfere in those types of ways because the child will still be disciplines the way you see fit. If she interferes the baby will end up being very spoiled and very difficult. If the two of you can not find a compromise, you will have to find a different way to support your child without her as a roommate.
