Laptop Hard Drive 500gb 7200 Rpm
What is the difference between these hard drives?
I want to get a MacBook Pro 15'' by next year. I just wasn't sure what was the difference between all these hard drives. I am going to use the laptop for school as I am in college and for entertainment at home, I'm not going to be editing videos and all. I just want one that is relevantly fast. Which would be best for me?
*250GB Serial ATA Drive @ 5400 rpm
*320GB Serial ATA Drive @ 5400 rpm
*500GB Serial ATA Drive @ 5400 rpm
*320GB Serial ATA Drive @ 7200 rpm
*500GB Serial ATA Drive @ 7200 rpm
Any of them would be fast enough for you. But you should get a 500GB drive, either the 5400 or 7200RPM.
There are trade-offs. For a laptop use, the 5400RPM would probably be better. Still relatively fast, but won't run down your battery as bad.
The reason you want the 500GB is... even if you don't need that much space now, it is harder to upgrade a laptop. In a desktop, you could always add a second hard drive for extra storage. If you need extra storage in a laptop, this will typically require replacing the existing hard drive... and several days to reinstall the operating system and all your software and drivers and data files and get it all working "just right" again. Go with the largest hard drive you can afford, for any laptop.
