Laptop Memory Ddr3 8gb
How does DDR3 in a processor relate to that in memory?
I'm shopping for a new laptop, and I was looking at my options for processors and memory. On the laptop I'm looking at, I can get up to this processor:
Intel® Core™ i7-720QM Processor 1.6 GHz (2.8 GHz with Turbo Boost Technology), 6MB L3 Cache, 1333MHz DDR3
And I can get up to this memory:
8GB DDR3 1066MHz SDRAM (4096MBx2)
What's the difference in the DDR3 parts of those? Does it matter that the processor only has 6GB and the memory has 8GB? Or that the MHz are different? I don't know if they're even related, but I don't want to spend more on the memory if my processor can't even take advantage of it.

First of all, the processor has 6MB, not 6GB. And, in any event, how much memory the processor *has* has no effect on how much external memory it can use.
Second, the 1333MHz in the CPU is the maximum effective memory transfer rate. So it will take full advantage of 1066MHz memory.
Third, that memory is a poor match for that processor. The processor has three channels and works best with the same amount of memory on each channel. 8GB is not divisible by 3. 6GB (3 2GB sticks, ideally) would be a better choice.
Best: One stick on each channel, same amount of memory.
Very Good: Two sticks on each channel, same amount of memory on each channel.
Mediocre: Two sticks on two different channels, same amount of memory.
Poor: Anything else.
