Laptop internet access - alternative to Verizon air card?
I love the speed of the broadband internet access available through the Verizon Wireless air card connected to a laptop, but they get $59.99 a month with a 2 year agreement and for existing customers. That is too steep. Any cheaper alternative solutions out there that will get me the same kind of bandwidth in an unlimited, access the internet from absolutely anywhere kind of way?
For $59.99 you better be getting UNLIMITED data. Most carriers offer WIRELESS WAN (Which is what your air card is connecting to) for about that same price. I've seen some people get a PDA/phone with unlimited data and use the Bluetooth connection to transform the phone into a "modem" that the laptop can use. But, still you are paying for the data plan.
At this rate, the only real need to have WIRELESS WAN is when you want to connect in unpopulated areas. In this day and age, there are enough WIRELESS LAN access points (wi-fi) that you don't really need to buy an air card.
If you are willing to use it less, there are plans starting at $19.99 per month from Cingular.
